PetConnect

Overview

During a mobile app development course at university, our team created PetConnect, an app designed to connect pet shelters with potential adopters. Shelters can create profiles for pets in need of a home, making it easier for adopters to find their perfect match.

The app's development involved collaborative teamwork, from designing the UI to bringing it to life as a fully functional app ready for use.

Problem definition

The application had clear requirements we needed to meet: we had to create a user-friendly experience for browsing pets up for adoption, complete with essential details like vaccination status, any health conditions, and pedigree information. Additionally, pet shelters needed a way to connect with potential adopters through their pet listings, so we included a chat feature to make communication easy.

Requirements

  • An adopter can browse through available pets and find out all necessary information

  • A pet shelter can create a profile and add pet listings of all the pets at their shelter

  • Adopters can express interest for a certain pet and start a conversation with the pet shelter

  • Through the conversation, adopter and shelter can agree on an appointment for a meeting with the pet

The development

We had about 2 months to complete the project and present it. To stay on track, we organized our tasks in GitHub and collaborated on the shared codebase, dividing the development work by the different pages and features the app needed.

With such a tight timeline and a larger team, we had to be flexible and work well together, navigating the challenges of communication and coordination. After a bit of a rough start in dividing the workload, we successfully brought our vision to life and presented the app as planned.

Solution

The final solution included all the core features and requirements we had envisioned. The UI design was kept minimal, with a clean, simple font and fun purple accents throughout the app. This approach ensured the interface was intuitive and user-friendly for different age groups.
